Activities | Sensory Balloons

Sensory play is so much fun and is so stimulating to all children. We love making sensory bottles and bags, however little babies struggle to hold and to use these so we had a go at filling balloons with different materials and they are the perfect size for tiny hands. Great for babies from 4 months and up when they are just starting to grab and hold onto things.

In one balloon we placed flour, in another we placed rice and in another we placed lentils. We filled the balloons using a funnel. If you don’t have one, cutting the top third off a plastic bottle works just as well. The balloons worked really well and felt really interesting. My favourite is the flour filled one.

Other ideas for fillings:

  • Sand
  • Granulated sugar
  • Pasta
  • Couscous
  • Popcorn kernels
  • Water
  • Cornflour and water mixture
  • Playdough

If you give these a go please let us know and tell us what fillings you went for!
