When every picture you see has a pretty cot bumper and soft cuddly toys making it look cosy and inviting then why would you not go out and buy them to make your own babies cot look just as welcoming. Unfortunately a lot of shops and online stores are still selling and promoting cot bumpers despite the fact that they have been found not to be safe.
The Lullaby Trust is an organisation who raise awareness of SIDS and how parents can reduce the risk, train health care professionals who work with families of young babies and funded SIDS research. They also provide support to bereaved families.
They have continued to work tirelessly since 1971 to raise awareness of safer sleep and have become a leading authority on SIDS. The rate of SIDS deaths has dropped by over 80% since they began, reaching a record low in 2015.
Just a quick reminder that SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) is the sudden and unexpected death of a baby where no cause is found.
Below are a few pictures from the Lullaby Trust website, explaining simply why cot bumpers and toys in cots aren’t safe. Their website is full of up to date and useful information for both parents and carers, we really recommend having a look, even if it’s just to refresh your knowledge.
