Out & About | Half Term in London Guide (Oct 16)

It only feels like a few weeks ago that the children went back to school and here we are rapidly approaching Half Term. Whether your children break up today or next Friday, we’ve got a line up of half term activities in London for you.

Storystock
Angels & Urchins is hosing Storystock – a circus of stories to The Lyric Hammersmith for October Half Term, (Thursday 27 & Friday 28th October). Find out more here.

The Circus
Whilst we’re on a Circus type theme – have you ever thought about taking your children to the Circus?  This Half Term the Moscow State Circus is situated at Clapham Common. From the 19th – 30th October. Find out more and buy tickets here.

Exploring the Outdoors
There are Halloween Specials at Fulham Palace during the half term holiday. On 25th October – Bones, Bats and Bumps in the Night Workshop. On the 30th October – Halloween Crafts and Pumpkin Parade for younger children and the Fulham Palace Young People’s Ghost Tour for those braver older children. Find out more here.

The Royal Albert Hall
Fancy taking your little ones to the Royal Albert Hall? There is a family concert on Saturday 26th October. The concert named  ‘My Great Orchestral Adventure‘ sounds great fun. For children aged 3+. ” The conductor of the orchestra has lost his baton and is very unhappy. Come with us on a magical adventure to try and find it and help bring happiness back to the orchestra. Together we will travel to faraway lands and mythical places. We’ll face trolls, bears and mermaids, and we’ll travel through treacherous landscapes.”  Find out more here.

The National Big Draw
The world’s biggest drawing festival is taking place during the month of October. with various events on in london – one is at the Bank of England and is called ‘Designs on your money’. Children can explore the Bank of England Museum and as the title may suggest design their own money.  Find out more here.

How about some Pumpkin Picking? With Halloween coming up we’ve looked into farms where you can take children to choose their own pumpkins. Crockford Bridge Farm near Weybridge is the closest to London, you can choose your pumpkins however not pick them from the field here. There are also Halloween activities at Garson’s Farm. You can also enjoy slimy creatures at Hobbledown Farm, however we can’t confirm there will be pumpkins.

Battersea Park Zoo are also hosting Half Term activities from the 22nd-30th October. Including Pumpkin Trials, a Slimy Snake Day and The Big Draw on the Saturday 29th. Find out more here.

Fireworks
Looking slightly ahead of Half Term we’ve got a little roundup of Fireworks Displays around London.

  • Merton Council are hosting Musical Fireworks on Thursday 3rd Nov at Wimbledon Park and on Saturday 5th Nov at Morden Park. More here.
  • The Fireworks Festival is at Alexandra Palace on Friday 4th and Saturday 5th November. Tickets and info are here.
  • Battersea Park hosts a fireworks display on Saturday 5th November too. Find out more here.
  • Plus there’s The Lord Mayor’s show on Saturday 12th November will feature a fireworks display on the River Thames between Waterloo Bridge and Blackfriars Bridge. More information can be found here.

Or how about the theatre? 

From Tuesday 1st – Sat 5th November Gansta Granny is live on stage at the New Wimbledon Theatre. We have more information following on Monday!
