Today it’s time to look at another of our favorite books. This time it’s Wow! Said the Owl, which you can find here. Tim Hopgood is the author and illustrator of this book which is predominantly about colours. It is aimed at children between the ages of 2 and 6 years old. It is very intriguing and interesting for children. An easy for them to learn about colours.
It also looks at the concept of night and day, an intrigued owl ‘stays up’ one day and is amazed by what he sees. Wow! Said the Owl is an easy to read story, that younger children will follow quickly due to its repetitive nature. (We mean that in the nicest possible way)!
If you’re looking for a warm yet educational story for your bedtime reading this is a good book to get. As children become familiar with it they will engage in the story and probably end up reading or reciting it to you. There are plenty of oppourtunities to talk about colours and the concept of time – day/night.
We can only recommend you get to a local library (as they need all the support they can get at the moment).
According to the EYFS children aged 30-50 months are able to ‘Explore colour and begin to differentiate between colours’. This can be found within Creative Development. Exploring Media and Materials.
