Books | Oliver Jeffers

I’m sure you’ll all have favourite books that you enjoy reading to your children or the children you care for. Today it’s my turn to share with you one of my favourites. However, I simply can’t narrow it down.. I have lots of favourites by the author Oliver Jeffers. Jeffers is not only the author of these charming books but also the illustrator. I can’t quite fathom how somebody can draw such beautiful illustrations and write such heart warming stories at the same time.

If you haven’t come across Oliver Jeffers before I can only highly recommend his books. What are you waiting for? Head to a book shop or library right away. I’ve throughly enjoyed reading How to Catch a Star, Lost and Found, and Up and Down. These 3 in particular are about a Boy and his adventures. You may even spot a sweet little penguin in a few of them. I find these books adorable, no matter how many times I read them, I enjoy them every single time. The children I look after also love these books.

Last year we were fortunate enough to watch Up and Down at the theatre, which was a lovely experience. We loved watching the story of the boy and the penguin come to life. The audience participation kept even my youngest who was 20 months at the time completely mesmerised by the performance. You can read, and see photos here.

  1. You’re absolutely right – illustrators are amazing, and illustrators who can write as well are jewels beyond compare! (Speaking as a writer here.)
